It began in 2008 when Tim Hale and Troy Townley came to the realisation that small to medium sized businesses (SME’s) wanted more specialised and proactive accounting than merely compliance and tax.
The market was looking for more value and help in all areas of business, financial, personal and strategic. We knew we needed to ‘reinvent the wheel’ to provide a service that made us as a key team player in our client’s success.
We also recognised we could bring this same proactive approach to personal accounting and helping clients self manage superannuation. In fact for many of our clients we look after all their financial needs, both personal and business and achieve holistic benefits.

Alex started with HTA in October 2018. As a senior accountant, he designs industry-specific solutions for clients across a broad variety of industries. His technical and communication (people) skills make it possible for him to improve client outcomes.
He defines success by how happy he is in life and his personal philosophy is not worrying about the things he cannot control. One thing people do not know about him is that he grew up on a sheep farm and he knows how to shear a sheep.
Being easy-going, focused and reliable are the traits that make him a perfect fit for the HTA family.
Alister joined HTA in April 2019. His day-to-day role as an intermediate accountant includes accounting & taxation services, research assignments and business advisory. The combination of his accounting and critical thinking skills make him perfect for the role.
The most rewarding part of Alister’s job is seeing our clients achieve their goals. Alister defines success as ‘the ability to continually make progress in an environment that is constantly changing.’
Honesty, loyalty, and respect are the three traits that he values the most.
Alister has represented Australia three times at the World Mounted Games Championships in horse riding.
Arvin started with HTA in February 2018. His knowledge in accounting and Australian tax as well as in using Xero accounting software helped him to provide assistance to HTA team when it comes to tax returns preparation, work papers setting up, compliance works, financials and year-end report drafting, bookkeeping, among others.
Being able to help clients sort out their accounting/tax deliverables accurately and in time is for him the most rewarding part of his job.
When he is not at work, he usually spends time watching movies. Action, adventure and fantasy movies are his favourites. In fact, if he could do another job just for a day, it would be a work in the movie house so he can watch all the latest movies for free.
He’s cheerful, optimistic and very passionate and he defines success as a combination of faith, perseverance and action.
Since starting with HTA in 2008, Ben has always worked closely with his clients to ensure that they are working towards their financial goals. Having big aspirational goals himself, he understands the importance of clients having goals of their own and how a Wealth Advisor can have a positive impact on achieving these goals.
Having worked as a business advisor for many years, Ben’s real passion lies within Wealth Advisory which prompted his move to head-up HTA Wealth. His approach is simple, as he puts it, “If you know and understand your client’s goals or help them develop their goals, then you can build a strategic plan to work towards attaining them.”
Ben’s high school career program suggested he should be a firefighter: this couldn’t have been further from what panned out. The similarity between both though is his love of helping others. I guess he figured finance was much safer than burning houses.
Cass joined the HTA team in November 2019. As a Client Services Manager, she is responsible for assisting accountants to ensure a smooth workflow, develop client relationships and general administration duties. She loves that she can assist in improving systems and procedures which is something she really enjoys. Cass also works in our Wealth and Finance department which is quite new to her, she is extremely excited about this opportunity and can’t wait to delve into the challenges that it will bring.
The most rewarding part of her job is that it allows her to work with people that motivate and challenge her, as well as providing a high level of customer service to clients.
In her spare time you will find Cass making sugar cookies, going to the gym and binge watching Netflix. Three traits that define Cass are determined, creative and positive, which make her a perfect fit for the HTA team!
Elisha joined the HTA team in November 2014 after completing her Bachelor of Commerce at Deakin University in 2012.
She has been working in the accounting industry since 2009, as a Senior Accountant of HTA over the past 2 years she has recently moved into the role of Delivery & Resourcing Manager
Elisha is passionate about helping her clients achieve their goals, no matter how daunting they may seem. She works with clients by providing accounting and taxation advice, she also provides business advisory services.
After work, you would often find her sitting on the beach reading a book or paddle-boarding! She is a mad North Melbourne supporter, her mood on a Monday morning is dependent on how they played on the weekend. Elisha will never pass up an opportunity to socialise with the team and looks forward to the staff get-together on a Friday at four o’clock.
Jes started with HTA in February 2019 after graduating with a double degree in Business (Public Relations) and Communication Design. As a Client Services Manager she assists the accounting team with administration tasks, manages process and system updates, and trains new employees. Jes is also responsible for content creation and assists with HTA’s marketing strategy.
With a background in customer service, she has great interpersonal skills and attention to detail which makes her a good fit for the role. The most rewarding part of her job is the range of tasks she gets to do every day.
In her spare time, you will find Jes snowboarding, camping on the Murray and enjoying a wine with friends.
Jim ‘the Pentagon’ Hyssoli started with HTA in August 2018 and nothing gets past this man!
He has 35 years of experience in business advisory and has seen the change in the profession which now than ever before requires an advisor to be very process-driven in the way he provides the services clients of today so desperately need – that is meeting client expectation.
He is good in research and development as well as problem-solving, and has quality leadership skills. With his skills, he can oversee the development of accounting and technical skills of the HTA team.
For him, the most rewarding part of his job is to be able to help clients achieve their goals by offering a proactive delivery of service. On the other hand, the most challenging part of his role is being a mentor and achieving client expectation.
According to him, success is the feeling of satisfaction in your achievements. He is optimistic and very client-centred. He loves outdoor gardening and adores his wife very much.
He is a fellow with CPA Australia and Chartered Tax Advisor with the Tax Institute.
Julie joined the HTA team in October 2011 as HTA’s first graduate accountant, after completing a Bachelor of Accounting at La Trobe University in July 2011.
Now one of HTA’s Senior Accountants with CPA qualifications, she loves getting involved in clients’ businesses to help them achieve not just their business, but also personal aspirations. She works with a large range of clients providing business advisory, accountancy, and taxation services.
Julie also likes to give something back and is the treasurer for the not-for-profit organization Lungevity Australia.
Outside of the office, you’ll often find her baking in the kitchen or relaxing on the couch with an action movie.
Julie’s most loved past-time is playing Netball, which she has done for over 13 years.
Keerat joined HTA in January 2020. As an Intermediate Accountant, he is responsible for the finalisation of accounts and compliance. The most rewarding part of his job is getting to know the ins and outs of different businesses. Keerat defines success as not giving up, just keep at it!
In his spare time Keerat loves biking (it’s his kind of meditation), and rock climbing.
Three traits that define Keerat are very persistent – If I start something I see it through, untalkative – I prefer deep and meaningful conversations, and diligence – I work hard and take care of my duties.
Lyra started with HTA in May 2018. Her attention to details and her background about business management helped her to perform her tasks as HTA’s administrative assistant. For her, the most rewarding part of her job is to be able to work in a culturally diverse workplace. Meeting amazing Aussie teammates and learning about their culture is enough to keep her motivated to go to work every day.
During her free time, she watches art-related shows. She loves being creative and is very passionate about makeups. And if she could do another job just for a day, that would be designing dresses.
Melissa joined the HTA team in April 2014, with a background in sales and administration, she’s transitioned into the role of Executive Assistant and People & Culture Manager.
She capitalises on her organisational and people skills by ensuring the partners work lives run smoother.
Melissa has a strong focus on ensuring the happiness of the whole team which is why she also heads up HTA’s marketing strategy and runs the office on a day to day basis.
In her spare time, you will often find Mel out and about exploring Victoria and the amazing food and wine we have to offer. She is someone who will never pass up a chance to socialise or share a cheeky glass of wine or two.
Mel has a bubbly personality and a giggle to match that is well known around the office!
Michael joined HTA in May 2019. As an Assistant Manager, he is responsible for dealing with the day to day needs of clients and assisting his fellow accountants. Having been in the accounting profession since 2014, he has developed the necessary skills to excel, with his attention to detail and passion for assisting clients achieve their personal and professional aspirations making him an asset to the HTA family.
When not in the office, you will find Michael on the golf course, tennis court or at the footy supporting his beloved Carlton Football Club.
Nicole started with HTA in September 2019. As a senior accountant, she is responsible for tax and business services, preparation and review of tax returns, and mentoring the juniors. The most rewarding part of her role is having a positive impact on clients, as well as HTA as a team.
Her interests include learning different languages and catching up with friends over some Vinos. Nicole can be described as curious, patient and open minded, which makes her a great asset to the HTA team.
Penny started with HTA in November 2017. Her qualifications, Xero skills, eye for detail and methodical approach makes her a great bookkeeper and finance manager for the HTA team. She is mainly responsible for managing and reconciling HTA’s internal accounts.
After moving from the UK to Australia in 2013, Penny has developed a love of the Aussie lifestyle. You will find her enjoying the beach most weekends during the summer with her husband and children. As a family, they love surfing, stand up paddleboarding and camping with friends.
She’s a very happy go lucky and positive person which makes her an amazing part of the HTA team.
Rachel started with HTA in August 2018. She is organised, has a sense of initiative, hardworking, a people person, and a natural learner. All these traits make her a great Business Manager. According to her, learning and improving processes are two things that are most rewarding about her job. These are also the most challenging part of her role.
Her personal philosophy is, “constantly strive to be the best version of yourself”. During her free time, she loves to stay in bed and watch TV. She also loves listening to heavy metal music.
With her loyalty and determination, she makes a good fit in in the HTA family.
Melody started with HTA in May 2018. Her organisation skills, as well as attention to details, helped her to be an ideal administration assistant for HTA. Working with great colleagues and bosses is for her the most rewarding part of her job.
Just like most of HTA team members, she is optimistic, cheerful and energetic. She loves reading books, especially the Bible. And she also loves expressing her thoughts by writing. For her, success is achieving an inner peace regardless of life’s circumstances.
Tim is one of the founding partners of HTA, having previously worked in both Australia and the United Kingdom developing his skills and business acumen. This overseas experience has enabled Tim to better assist his clients with financial management and strategic growth.
Tim is addicted to working closely with his clients and sharing their challenges and successes. He focuses on building a trusted advisor relationship, based on values of integrity, responsiveness, and developing value added outcomes.
Tim has extensive experience in working with people from the Property industry; with builders, trades persons, developers, professional services personnel and property owners. Tim shares a passion for property with his clients, which helps to ensure that valuable outcomes are returned year on year for his clients.
Tim has also developed a niche experience in aged care and retirement living, whereby he is a board member and investor in a boutique aged care group.
Troy is one of the founding Partners of HTA, having been a business advisor since 1999. During this time Troy has developed considerable skills and knowledge in working with clients to assist them in achieving both business and personal goals. The most rewarding part of his day is working with clients to support them in achieving and often exceeding their goals and objectives, even if this path is sometimes difficult.
Troy is focused on providing clients with proactive advice when it comes to their business and personal finances. He understands the important role of accountants, that is why he educates them so they can make a better decision about their finances, may it be about personal or about their business. He has a real passion for small business and working with clients to achieve their goals and objectives.
He defines success as being able to do what you want, where you want, with whom you want and not needing to be concerned about finances to do so. Outside of the office he loves to remain fit and active whether it be running, riding or trying to reduce his golf handicap. He is also a proud husband and father of two daughters.
